Portable Apps

Today I found a website that concentrates on portable applications. Portable applications are applications that run from removable media. All settings are stored on the removable media and not somewhare on the system itself. This way the application and personalization becomes portable.

The following applications are hosted on PortableApps.com:

• Portable AbiWord - The lightweight word processor
• Portable FileZilla - The excellent FTP client
• Portable Firefox - The popular Firefox web browser
• Portable Gaim - An instant messenger that works with AOL, MSN, Yahoo! and more
• Portable NVU - The web page editor based on Firefox
• Portable OpenOffice.org - The full-featured office suite
• Portable Sunbird - The handy calendar and task manager
• Portable Thunderbird - The popular Thunderbird email client

These portable versions are also usefull for, if you do not want to install an application on your system, preventing registry and system root infection. Simply copy the portable version to the system and it works! Pretty cool, don’t you think.
